THE Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Bayo Ojulari, has once again failed to appear before the Senate Committee on Public Accounts, despite being given a 10-day deadline to respond to questions regarding ₦200 trillion in unaccounted funds.
Instead of appearing in person at yesterday’s hearing, Ojulari sent a team of representatives.
However, the committee refused to engage with the delegation, insisting that only the GCEO himself must respond to the 11 major financial concerns identified in the company’s audited reports.
The lawmakers described his continued absence as a blatant disregard for the authority of the National Assembly and a violation of its constitutional oversight duties.
Senator Aliyu Wadada, chairman of the committee, issued a stern warning, stating that the Senate would not tolerate further defiance. He announced that a new date would be set, mandating Ojulari’s personal appearance before the panel.
Previously, the Senate had warned that failure to comply with its summons could lead to constitutional repercussions, including possible sanctions.
The Public Accounts Committee is currently investigating serious financial discrepancies in NNPCL’s records, which have raised significant concerns about accountability and transparency.
