The Delta State Police Command has received the case of a false kidnap perpetrated by two lovers, aimed to extort ransom from the family of the female partner.
Parading the suspects after their arrest, the spokesperson of the command, SP Bright Edafe, in recorded footage shared via X, revealed that the female, 21, initiated the false kidnap.
The female suspect had proposed that her partner (male suspect) should contact her parents to demand the sum of N2m for ransom, to be shared between them.
The lady, who had just gained admission into university, admitted to the crime.
A woman featured in the footage introduced as a mother to the female suspect said, “On December 30, she called saying she was going to make her hair in the next village. She didn’t return home.
“On the 31st, they called that she didn’t return home. I went to the village and made entry at the police station.
“They started calling my Daddy, asking him how much can he offer. The man said he has 40,000; he is a farmer and does not have money. They cut the call.
“The next day they called, demanding for N2m. He pleaded with them that he had only N100,000. They said, N2m or nothing.”
While interrogating the suspects, the female suspect said she had wanted to return on the same day of the visit, but her lover said he could not afford her transport fare back home.
“So, I told him to call my parents and tell them I was kidnapped,” she said.
On his part, the boyfriend admitted to having executed the plan.
He said that after multiple calls and threats to the parents of the girl, the sum of N2m was paid.
He was to keep N1.5m and his lover, N500,000.
