100 Nights of Hero, starring Maika Monroe, has officially released a new trailer for the fantasy movie showcasing the star-studded cast and a potential love triangle.

The official synopsis for 100 Nights of Hero is:

“Set in Darkly End, an alternate world ruled by the despotic Birdman. Cherry is unhappily married to Jerome, who doesn’t want to spend time with her. Considering their ‘duty’ to produce an heir, this is worrying. The only bright spot in Cherry’s day is her maid, Hero. Hero is part of a secret society that collects stories of women who rebelled and met unjust fates, vowing their sacrifices won’t be forgotten…

Because death is never far away for women here. So, when Jerome mysteriously goes on a ‘business trip’ and leaves Cherry with his flirtatious friend Manfred, Hero has a bad feeling. As the charming Manfred settles in, Cherry finds herself caught between the only man who has ever listened to her – and the maid she is developing forbidden feelings for. All rebellious women end up dead – can Cherry & Hero escape that fate?

The cast includes Emma Corrin as Hero, Nicholas Galltzine as Manfred, Monroe as Cherry, Charli XCX as Rosa, and Richard E. Grant as Birdman. The official release date for the movie is December 5. The film currently has a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score of 100% before its release, with critics praising the “eccentric and funny” storytelling Jackman delivers.

The historical fantasy is director Julia Jackman’s second feature after her 2023 movie Bonus Track and many short films. 100 Nights of Hero is based on Isabel Greenberg’s graphic novel titled The One Hundred Nights of Hero. The movie explores sexuality, desire, and misogyny surrounded by a gothic-style fantasy with elaborate sets and costumes.

The adaptation of Greenberg’s novel is distributed by the Independent Film Company and had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival on September 6. There are no official numbers in terms of budget, but since it’s an independent film, the chances are the budget isn’t too large. But the impressive cast is a selling point to push this quirky fantasy to the awards season.

Monroe is playing the innocent bride Cherry alongside Corrin’s portrayal of her maid Hero. The chemistry between Monroe and Corrin has proven to capture the hearts of critics as they are one of the main reasons for such high remarks and feedback, causing a perfect Rotten Tomatoes score. Unfortunately, with only 19 reviews, it’s hard to gauge how much that will change when the film officially releases on December 5.
