14 dead, six injured in tanker-bus collision on Lapai-Bida road

THE Niger State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kumar Tsukwam, has confirmed a fatal accident on the Lapai-Agaie-Bida Federal Highway that claimed 14 lives and left six others injured.

In a statement, Tsukwam attributed the crash to excessive speeding and wrongful overtaking.

The accident occurred at 10:59 a.m yesterday, February 22, 2025, between Kusobogi and Nami. It involved a Toyota Hiace bus traveling from Minna to Agaie and a DAF tanker en route from Lagos to Kaduna.

According to the FRSC report, the bus driver, while attempting to overtake another vehicle at high speed, collided head-on with the oncoming tanker.

The impact was devastating, resulting in the immediate deaths of 14 passengers, including eight males, five females, and one male child. Six male passengers sustained severe injuries and were taken to the General Hospital in Lapai for urgent medical attention.

The injured were promptly evacuated, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the morgue.

Tsukwam urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, avoid reckless driving, and ensure proper vehicle maintenance to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
