2024 SSCE results: Over 800,000 get credit in English, Maths – NECO

A total of 828,284 candidates passed English Language and Mathematics, Accounting for 60.55% of those who took the 2024 Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE) internal examination administered by the National Examination Council (NECO).

NECO Registrar Prof. Dantani Wushishi during a results announcement at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, stated that 1,376,436 candidates participated in the examination, with results released approximately two months after the final exam.

Additional results details revealed that 83.9% of candidates achieved five credits or more, regardless of English Language and Mathematics.

Wushishi also reported a decline in examination malpractice, with 8,407 candidates involved, down from 12,030 in 2023.

“The 2024 SSCE was held from June 19 to July 26, 2024, and the marking took place from August 19 to September 8, 2024. Today marks 55 days since the last exam paper was completed, indicating that all processes for releasing the results have been finalized,” he explained.

Key highlights include:

Total registered candidates: 1,376,423 (706,950 males and 669,473 females).

Candidates who sat for the exam: 1,367,736 (702,112 males and 665,624 females).

Candidates with five credits and above, including English and Mathematics: 828,284 (60.55%).

Candidates with five credits and above, irrespective of English and Mathematics: 1,147,597 (83.90%).

Wushishi noted that 40 schools were implicated in mass cheating across 17 states and will face disciplinary actions. Additionally, 21 supervisors are recommended for blacklisting due to extortion and intoxication.
