A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ayekooto Akindele, has confidently declared that Governor Ademola Adeleke will secure the party’s gubernatorial ticket if he defects from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Akindele, who is also the Coordinator of the Abuja Infrastructure Investment Council, made the statement in reaction to comments by another party member, Mosiu Apesinola.
Apesinola had earlier claimed that Adeleke would face primaries if he joins APC and would be taught a political lesson, stressing that defection is not an automatic ticket to power.
He wrote; “He will join APC but there will be primaries for gubernatorial candidates. He would be taught political lesson.Defection is not automatic re-election to power.
“My GOC, You got my message outrightly wrong. I only expressed how I feel and that has nothing to do with my 100% and unparalleled loyalty to PBAT. Besides, I am a Lagosian, only worried about how APC members in Osun would feel. Just a concerned member.”
But Akindele strongly disagreed, saying that the party’s leadership is well aware that Adeleke will get the ticket “100%” should he decide to join the APC ahead of the 2026 election.
He described it as pure politics, saying whether one likes it or not, Adeleke’s acceptance in the party would be total and immediate if he makes the move.
Akindele also noted that while some party members might rebel or attempt to teach the President a lesson by sabotaging from within or defecting to smaller parties like PDP, ADC or ADA, it wouldn’t change Adeleke’s chances.
He noted that defeating the President is “another ball game entirely,” implying that party dynamics and political strategy will determine the outcome, not mere sentiment or rebellion.
Ayekooto wrote, “He wrote, see, don’t let me deceive you, even your leaders know, if Adeleke joins APC, he will get the ticket 100%. It is not a matter of whether I like it or not, that is politics. Those of you who may disagree with the President and the party also have your choice of rebelling by teaching the President a lesson he will never forget thru joining the PDP, ADC, ADA etc or possibly stay within the party and sabotage. Whether you’re going to defeat the President is another ball game entirely.”
