The Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress and former Senate President, David Mark, has declared that the party is not backing any presidential aspirant ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a stakeholders’ meeting with the Kogi State chapter of the party in Abuja on Tuesday, Mark emphasised that the ADC was focused on building a credible platform before discussing candidacies.
Mark said, “The ADC has no preferred or favourite presidential aspirant. Our priority is to put together a platform that would be attractive and acceptable to the majority of Nigerians.”
Naijaonpoint reports that the former Senate President explained that the party’s approach stems from a desire to rescue the country from decline.
“We are doing this because we do not want this great ship called Nigeria to sink. If we do not rise now and it sinks, all of us will be affected,” he warned.
The former Senate President called for unity and collective ownership among ADC members, insisting that the party belongs to all.
“I don’t own this party more than any other member. All members are equal stakeholders, equal joiners, equal owners,” he affirmed.
Mark urged party faithful to set aside their personal ambitions and work as a united team. He said, “We must bond together to build the party before we can talk of ambitions.”
He also cautioned politicians against personal attacks, urging a shift towards constructive engagement on national issues.
“Some politicians are busy attacking one another instead of focusing on the key challenges facing the country, such as insecurity. If the ADC assumes power, we will take these issues head-on,” he further stated.
The ADC chairman ended his address with a passionate appeal to Nigerians to rally around the party’s reform agenda.
“Let us continue to work to rebuild our nation and bring out her best in the overall interest of future generations,” he said.
