2027: Adeleke Reveals Position On Tinubu After Dumping PDP For Accord Party

Tinubu and Adeleke

The Osun State Commissioner for Information, Kolapo Alimi, has affirmed that despite joining the Accord Party, Governor Ademola Adeleke remains fully in support of the 2027 re-election bid of President Bola Tinubu.

Alimi said his principal’s support for President Tinubu’s second term bid remains unwavering.

“That is no longer news for anybody. Even when we were in the People’s Democratic Party, we adopted the President [Tinubu] for a second term.

“When you trace the root of Mr President, you trace it to Osun state. He is one of us, and we have to give him the necessary support,” the Commissioner said.

He disclosed that Governor Ademola Adeleke quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on November 4 and had already joined the Accord Party by November 6, 2025.

He added, however, that Adeleke didn’t make the move public because he didn’t want to disrupt the November 15 and 16 National Convention of the PDP, which was held in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Speaking on Wednesday during a Channels Television interview, Alimi said Governor Adeleke intentionally delayed his unveiling as a member of the AP.

“He resigned his membership from the People’s Democratic Party on November 4. He had actually joined the Accord Party by November 6, but he delayed the unveiling because of the convention of the PDP, which was going on.

“He didn’t want to be seen as part of the people who disrupted the event. He left the People’s Democratic Party because the leadership crisis heightened,” the Commissioner said.

Naijaonpoint reports that the news of Adeleke’s defection from the PDP to the AP went viral on Tuesday.

Explaining his decision to dump the PDP, the Osun State Governor blamed the crisis rocking the party.

“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect,” the governor wrote in a letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede North Local Government, Osun State.

Why Accord Party?

Alimi disclosed further during the interview that Adeleke joined the Accord Party because he feared his ambitions were at risk if he stayed in the PDP and the manifesto of the new party aligns with the Governor’s intentions.

“He left the People’s Democratic Party because the leadership crisis was unending.

“Yesterday, the Governor unveiled Accord because, looking at their manifesto, it goes in line with good governance that Adeleke is delivering, and everybody since yesterday has actually welcomed him and given kudos to Governor Ademola Adeleke for going to Accord,” the Commissioner added.
