The African Democratic Congress (ADC) vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, on Monday intensified the party’s outreach to Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), donating two wheelchairs and a cash gift to the disability community while pledging that inclusivity would occupy a central place in an Atiku-Amaechi administration.
Amaechi made the donations when he received a delegation of the ADC-PWD Directorate at his Abuja residence during a condolence visit over the death of his mother, Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi.
The delegation, led by the National Coordinator of the ADC-PWD Directorate, Dr. Chike Okogwu, sympathised with the former Rivers State governor over the family’s loss, describing the late matriarch’s passing as a painful moment.
Responding, Amaechi expressed gratitude for the visit, saying the delegation’s show of solidarity offered comfort to his family during the period of mourning.
Reflecting on the inevitability of death, the former Minister of Transportation urged Nigerians to live lives worthy of remembrance, stressing that the greatest inheritance anyone could leave behind was a legacy of service and integrity.
In a gesture that surprised members of the delegation, Amaechi donated two wheelchairs to Persons With Disabilities and announced a cash gift of ₦1 million to support the visitors’ transportation.
“I am doing it the other way. I know for such a visit as this I am supposed to collect. But for this, I am giving this for transportation,” he said.
Amaechi further assured the delegation that disability inclusion would remain a priority in the ADC’s governance agenda, insisting that Persons With Disabilities would no longer be treated as an afterthought in national development but as critical stakeholders in shaping the country’s future.
Speaking earlier, Dr. Okogwu said the ADC-PWD Directorate had placed enormous importance on the 2027 general election, expressing confidence that an Atiku-Amaechi administration would usher in a new era of inclusion for millions of Nigerians living with disabilities.
He lamented what he described as the failure of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to fully implement existing disability laws and policies designed to guarantee equal opportunities and representation in governance.
Okogwu also appealed to Amaechi to formally launch the Atiku-Amaechi campaign from the ADC-PWD Directorate in Abuja, saying such a move would send a strong message of the party’s commitment to disability rights, equal participation and inclusive governance.If you’d like,
