The lawmaker representing Ife Federal Constituency of Osun State, Taofeek Abimbola Ajilesoro, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing deep-rooted internal crises and a culture of endless litigation.
Naijaonpoint reports that Ajilesoro’s resignation came just hours after Governor Ademola Adeleke’s plans to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC) were thwarted, urging his supporters to remain in the PDP.
In a letter dated July 22, 2025, and addressed to the Ilare Ward II Chairman in Ife Central Local Government Area, Ajilesoro notified the party of his decision to leave the PDP with immediate effect.
The letter, which was copied to the National Assembly, the PDP National Working Committee (NWC), and other key organs of the party, read, “Please accept this letter as formal notification of my resignation from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately.”
“This decision, though difficult, has become necessary due to the persistent internal conflicts, deep-seated divisions, and the pervasive culture of legal disputes that have unfortunately come to characterise the party.”
Ajilesoro had previously been considered a close ally of Governor Adeleke, and was among those who pledged to follow the governor to any new political party. However, Adeleke on Tuesday confirmed that his plan is to remain in the PDP.
A credible source within the PDP told The Nation, late Tuesday, that another federal lawmaker is likely to announce his resignation from the party by Wednesday, citing similar grievances.
