The 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Gombe State, Mohammad Barde, has formally defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Barde, who came second in the 2023 governorship election behind Governor Inuwa Yahaya, said his decision to join the ADC was part of his preparation for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in an interview after validating his membership of the ADC, Barde explained that his move was informed by his conviction that the party offers a credible platform for political engagement ahead of 2027.
He said the decision followed his assessment of the country’s current challenges and the need for a political structure capable of responding effectively to them.
Barde criticised what he described as worsening insecurity and poor infrastructure in Gombe State and across the country.
According to him, these challenges have continued to affect the well-being of citizens, stressing that addressing them requires a party with clear commitment and purpose.
The former PDP governorship candidate expressed confidence in the ADC’s ability to bring positive change, noting that the party is driven by inclusive leadership and equal opportunities for all Nigerians.
He said the ADC’s ideology and programmes align with his vision of governance that prioritises fairness, security and development.
Barde also disclosed that the ADC plans to hold state congresses and a national convention in February 2026.
He urged party members to participate actively in the ongoing membership revalidation exercise and to mobilise new supporters ahead of the congresses and convention.
