2027: Kwara lawmaker alleges political attack

Saba Gideon

The suspended Kwara State House of Assembly member, Honourable Saba Gideon, has alleged that there is a politically motivated attack against him, describing his three-month suspension as a blatant abuse of legislative authority.

The Edu constituency lawmaker claims the action is designed to silence his voice ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at a press briefing in Ilorin, Gideon alleged he was targeted for refusing to back what he described as the Speaker’s gubernatorial ambition.

It was reported that Gideon was suspended on December 18, 2025, for allegedly leaking an audio recording from an internal Assembly meeting.

But he insists the recording contained nothing related to legislative business, claiming it was a private discussion that exposed office gossip in the Speaker’s quarters.

“The suspension is unconstitutional. I was not invited for any hearing or investigation.”

“No legislative rule gives anyone the right to override the constitutional privileges of an elected representative,” Gideon said, framing the move as a strategic effort to intimidate dissenting voices within the House.

He argued that the suspension is part of a broader pattern of political victimisation, warning that such abuse of power threatens the integrity of the Assembly and undermines democratic norms in Kwara State.
