2027: NDC won’t merge with opposition coalition – Dickson

The Nigeria Democratic Congress has said it will contest the 2027 presidential election under its own platform, ruling out any plan to dissolve or merge into the opposition coalition.

The party’s national leader and former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, disclosed this on Wednesday during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time.

Dickson, however, said the NDC remained willing to work with other opposition parties and urged them to unite behind a single presidential candidate ahead of the election.

He said the party was aware of efforts by members of the G-100 opposition coalition and supported the objective of presenting a formidable challenge in 2027.

According to him, the NDC believes it has a strong and balanced political ticket capable of appealing to Nigerians across the country and those in the diaspora.

“We are going to the election as NDC. If other parties and candidates support us, as we think they should, well and good, but we are working to win the election,” Dickson said.

He explained that although the coalition advocates cooperation among opposition groups, the NDC would retain its identity while collaborating with other parties where necessary.

Dickson added that the party’s presidential candidate had recently attended a campaign rally organised by the Allied Peoples Movement, describing the interaction as part of the ongoing engagement among opposition figures ahead of the 2027 polls.
