The All Progressives Congress in Kano State has assured President Bola Tinubu of 1.5m Votes in the 2027 presidential election.
The Kano APC Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, gave the assurance on Monday while dismissing claims by the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, that President Tinubu may lose the 2027 presidential election over the ongoing Kano emirate tussle.
In the 2023 presidential election, the APC secured a total of 513,846 votes (31.50%) in Kano, which was significantly lower than the 1,464,768 votes (77.45%) it scored in the state during the 2019 presidential poll.
During the 2023 poll, the NNPP trounced the APC by securing 953,179 votes (58.42%). The Peoples Democratic Party scored 118,445 votes (7.26%) while the Labour Party (LP) got 30,089 votes (1.84%) in the election.
Responding to the NNPP’s claim that Tinubu may lose the next presidential poll, Abbas said the ruling party was using the Kano Emirate tussle to distract the public from its failures.
The APC Chairman boasted that the party would secure three times what it got in the 2023 presidential election in 2027, stressing that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the national leader of the NNPP, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, would be defeated because of their leadership styles.
He said, “The crisis of confidence rocking the factionalised opposition NNPP and its embattled leader, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, is embarrassingly exposing its dismal failure, even as it is boasting of clinching the nation’s presidency come 2027.
“We are using this medium to assure our able and capable President, including the party national leadership that Kano State APC is now more united, popular and is daily attracting politically valuable people into our fold. We are ready and will deliver more than triple of the votes we got in 2023 presidential election.
“Aside widely acknowledged poor performance of Governor Abba Yusuf-led NNPP government in Kano State in the last one year, the party’s penchant for causing and sponsoring crisis in a peaceful state he inherited and some of his anti-people’s policies are factors voters will consider in the next election.
“It is a public knowledge that while other state governors were commissioning one project or the other to mark their one year in office, the NNPP Kano State government was busy distracting the good people of Kano from his obvious failures through the contentious emirate law as a tactic from his inadequacies in office.”
Abbas further slammed Kwankwaso, saying he lacks the influence and national appeal necessary to win a presidential election.
