Two farm attendants, Ibrahim Yalmi, 23, and Samuel David, 24, and eight others were on Monday, May 18, docked in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly stealing chickens worth N4.3 million.
Others arraigned are Kurewen Amadi, 29; Paul Gagiso, 35; Afose Assogbari, 30; Monica John, 28; Cecilia Philip, 30; Tusen Jebete, 50; Hannah Dele, 25; and John Agosu, 28.
They are all charged with conspiracy, theft, and receiving stolen chickens.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecution Counsel, Insp. Adeshina Folaranmi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence between June 2024 and May 2025 at V Tees Farm, Badeku area of Ibadan.
Folaranmi alleged that Yalmi and David, who worked as attendants, stole 628 chickens worth N4.3 million belonging to the farm.
He alleged that the eight others bought the chickens from Yalmi and David at a much lower rate than the original prices.
He said the eight defendants knew that the chickens were stolen by Yalmi and David.
According to him, the offence contravenes the provisions of sections 516, 390(9), and 427 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Oluwabusayo Osho, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N2 million each and two sureties each in like sum.
Osho held that one of the sureties must have N2 million domiciled in an account, while one must be a relation bearing the same surname as the defendants.
She adjourned the case until June 4 for a hearing.
