Katsina police have detained a 27-year-old man, Sada Tambai, over the alleged killing of his 80-year-old father, Adamu Tambai, in Mundadu village, Bindawa Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect was arrested after the elderly man, a former ward head in the community, was discovered unconscious in front of his residence on September 21, 2026.
The police spokesman, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, who disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, said the incident was reported to the command through the District Head of Bindawa, Dan Yusufan Katsina.
He said officers were immediately sent to the scene and took the victim to a hospital for emergency medical attention.
The man was, however, confirmed dead by a doctor shortly after his arrival.
According to the command, investigators subsequently traced the incident to the deceased’s son, who was taken into custody for questioning.
Police said the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation to striking his father in the head with a stick, leading to injuries that proved fatal.
The command said Tambai had been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation into the circumstances surrounding his father’s death.
The Commissioner of Police, Ali Fage, ordered a detailed investigation and directed that the suspect be taken to court upon completion of the probe.
The command also condoled with the family and assured the public that the case would be thoroughly investigated.
