Three children have been rescued from their abductors in the Kurmin Mashi area of Kaduna State by security operatives.
A counter-terrorism expert, Zagazola Makama said three suspects linked to the children’s abduction were also arrested.
Makama said sources noted that the suspects were arrested after a complaint was lodged by the families of the victims.
The complaint was said to have been lodged on August 25.
He added that abductors had demanded a ransom of N50 million to be paid before the release of the children
The victims were identified as Aslam Umar Lukman, 14, Suleiman Umar Tanko, 12, and Aliyu Umar Tanko, 10.
According to Makama, police operatives acted on intelligence and arrested one Richard Philip, 19, of Calabar Road, Sabon Layi, on August 26.
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and revealed that he conspired with two others, identified as Ibrahim Ma’aruf, 18, and Abubakar Sadiq, 15, both residents of Kurmin Mashi, to kidnap the children.
“The children were rescued unhurt from Philip’s residence where they were being kept,” the statement said.
The statement also said that all three suspects were arrested and had provided useful information to the police.
Security sources noted that the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
