A widow, Mrs Agnes Onu-Nwokorie, has appealed to Ebonyi Governor, Francis Nwifuru and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun to intervene in the alleged murder of daughter, Nnennaya, four years ago.

A widow, Mrs Agnes Onu-Nwokorie, has appealed to Ebonyi Governor, Francis Nwifuru and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun to intervene in the alleged murder of daughter, Nnennaya, four years ago.
Onu-Nwokorie claimed that her daughter was murdered on Dec. 23, 2021 in her compound at Anike, Onicha-Igboeze in Onicha Local Government over her husband’s inheritance and burial programme.
She told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abakaliki that the head and leg of her daughter were chopped off by her killers, prompting her to flee her matrimonial home.
She said that the Police Command in Ebonyi had in 2021 launched a manhunt for her killers but no one had been arrested four years after the incident.
She alleged that due to threats to her life by the suspected killers of her daughter, she fled from the community with her only surviving daughter.
According to her, I have no home now, our lands have been seized and all the economic trees sold.
“It is disheartened that up till now, no arrest have been made.
“When I lost my husband in 2018, some family members planned to bury him without involving me and my two female children, late Nnennaya and Juliet Onu, who is now married.
“My daughter Nnennaya was killed because she insisted that herself and sibling must be involved in the burial ceremony and her father’s inheritance.
“My late daughter reported the incident to the family law centre, where the suspects were officially mandated to stop such move of burying her husband without involving her children .
“Our family members have denied me access to our house, the piece of land and the cassava on it had been sold without been questioned.
“This is how we have been suffering in the hands of the people, who are supposed to be our shield,” she said.
The widow appealed to the governor and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to unmask the perpetrators of the crime, alleging that the suspects were threatening to harm whoever tried to intervene in the matter.
When contacted, the police command Spokesman, SP Joshua Ukandu urged the bereaved to report at the command to identify the section that handled the case.
Ukandu said the new Commissioner of Police, Anthonia Uche-Anya had directed that the culprits should be arrested and brought to justice.(NAN)
