Cairo: At least 41 people were killed and more than 50 injured as a result of a fire in a church in Cairo, the capital of Egypt.
According to the Arab media, the incident of fire happened on Sunday morning in the Abusfin church in the densely populated area of Ambaba in the capital city of Cairo.
Officials say a fire broke out at the church during a weekly gathering, killing 41 people and injuring more than 50 so far.
As soon as the incident was reported, rescue officials reached the spot and the injured have been shifted to Ambaba General Hospital and Al-Ajoza Hospital.
A spokesman for the church said that the priest of the church had died in the accident.
Police officials say that the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, but there are reports that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit in the church.
