The legal drama between 50 Cent and his ex Shaniqua Tompkins is heating up — and this time, it’s all about the rights to tell her own life story.
According to a newly filed lawsuit by Jackson’s publishing company, G-Unit Books, Tompkins allegedly violated a “life rights agreement” she signed all the way back in 2007. The deal — reportedly worth $80,000 — granted Jackson exclusive rights to publicize Tompkins’ life story, including her past relationship with the rapper. The two dated in the ’90s and early 2000s and share a son, Marquise Jackson, who’s had his own strained relationship with his father over the years.
So what’s the issue now?
The lawsuit claims Tompkins has been posting social media content that draws heavily from her personal history with 50 Cent — and G-Unit Books says that’s a major problem. According to court docs, the company believes Tompkins’ videos are not only unauthorized, but also diminish the value of the exclusive rights they legally purchased. “She’s undermining the company’s ability to develop and market future works based on those rights,” the complaint argues.
In simpler terms: 50 Cent’s team says her storytelling is messing with their money.
And they’re not playing — G-Unit Books is now demanding $1 million in damages and is asking the court to force Tompkins to delete all the offending posts and stop sharing similar content in the future.
While both parties have stayed mostly quiet on the issue publicly, 50 Cent couldn’t resist throwing shade on Instagram. In classic petty fashion, he posted a screenshot of TMZ’s coverage with the caption:
“I didn’t realize how much she looks like me, girl you handsome with them baby hairs.”
Oop.
... sparked thousands of comments from fans — some laughing, others criticizing him for targeting the mother of his son so publicly. Still, if you’ve followed 50 Cent’s history online, this is exactly his brand of clapback.
This lawsuit also marks 50 Cent’s second courtroom battle in recent months. In April, he sued the producers of the upcoming horror film Skillhouse, claiming he was never paid for his role in the movie. According to him, he filmed scenes before a contract was finalized, trusting he’d be compensated — but the money never came.
It’s clear that Jackson — both a business mogul and professional troll — is aggressively protecting his brand and intellectual property in 2025. But the question remains: can someone really be stopped from telling their own story?
