The United Kingdom’s Metropolitan Police have identified Nkiru Chima, a 60-year-old Nigerian woman, as the victim of a fatal stabbing in her apartment in Romford, east London.

In a statement published on Tuesday, the police said officers were alerted around 7:00 p.m. on Sunday by the British Transport Police, following concerns for her welfare at a residence on Bushy Close, RM1.

Part of the statement read: “Officers located a woman at the address with multiple stab wounds. She was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. She has since been named as 60-year-old Nkiru Chima from Romford.”

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke of the Met’s Specialist Crime Command said investigations suggest that Chima’s death is linked to that of a 20-year-old man found dead on the train tracks at Romford station earlier the same evening.

“As our enquiries have progressed, we are confident that Nkiru’s tragic death is connected to the death of a 20-year-old man on the train tracks at Romford station earlier that evening.

“This man was known to Nkiru and British Transport Police continue to investigate his death,” she said.

Yorke thanked members of the local community for their support during the investigation.

The incident comes shortly after another Nigerian, 26-year-old Ayowale Aladejana, was fatally stabbed in New Cross, southeast London.

The Metropolitan Police said a man and a woman have been charged with murder in connection to Aladejana’s death.
