Kylian Mbappe has shared his excitement following his home debut for Real Madrid in their 3-0 La Liga victory over Real Valladolid on Sunday, Soccernet.football reports.
Despite a challenging day on the pitch, where the French striker struggled to break through a resilient Valladolid defence, Mbappe was thrilled to finally play at the Santiago Bernabeu in the famous white shirt.
The match saw Real Madrid claim their first win of the La Liga season after an opening draw against Real Mallorca.
Fede Valverde opened the scoring with a deflected free-kick in the 50th minute, setting the tone for the second half.
Substitutes Brahim Diaz and young Brazilian debutant Endrick added to the scoreline late on, sealing a comfortable victory for the Spanish champions.
Mbappe, who recently joined Real Madrid after years of speculation, was handed a golden opportunity to open his La Liga account when Vinicius Junior provided a perfect cut-back.
However, Estonian goalkeeper Karl Hein denied him. Another chance came on a counter-attack, but Mbappe’s effort went wide before he was substituted for Endrick, who went on to score.
After the game, Mbappe expressed his joy to Real Madrid’s media via ManagingMadrid, saying, “We wanted to win the first game, we’re delighted and we just want more. Playing in this stadium is a dream come true, but we now have a game on Thursday and we want to win again.
“It was a great moment, I’m very happy to have started at the Bernabéu with a win and the three points. It was a great night. The fans were great. Thanks to everyone for this moment, for supporting the team and me.”
The victory over Real Valladolid keeps Real Madrid two points behind their arch-rivals Barcelona, who secured a win over Athletic Bilbao.
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on how Mbappe adapts to his new surroundings and the impact he will have on Madrid’s quest for domestic and European glory.
