Rebecca Ferguson‘s new political thriller tops Netflix’s streaming charts. The star leads her first-ever Netflix movie with A House of Dynamite, following her appearance in the two Dune movies and the Mission: Impossible franchise. ...-apocalyptic political thriller received a limited theatrical release on October 3 before officially landing on streaming on October 24.

After just one day of its release, A House of Dynamite immediately topped Netflix’s streaming charts, dethroning The Perfect Neighbor, which was the previous titleholder. The top 10 chart is complete with Netflix’s record-breaking movie KPop Demon Hunters, Taken in Plain Sight, and The Twits.

A House of Dynamite follows the United States’ reaction when a nuclear missile from an unknown entity is on its way to target Chicago. Those with executive power have a limited time to decide how they plan to stop the nuclear missile before it’s too late. The Netflix political thriller marks Kathryn Bigelow’s first directorial movie since 2017’s Detroit. Alongside Ferguson, the star-studded ensemble cast includes Idris Elba, Gabriel Basso, Anthony Ramos, Greta Lee, and more.

Since its premiere at Venice in September, the Netflix thriller has been buzzing with award potential, including Bigelow for Best Director. She is the first female director to win the prestigious award in 2010 for The Hurt Locker.

Written by Noah Oppenheim, A House of Dynamite currently has a 79% Rotten Tomatoes score and a 76% audience score. Many critics agree that the Netflix thriller succeeds in executing the distressing events of a nuclear strike through the lens of multiple players. Several also noted the movie’s approach to addressing political commentary, which seems to be more mixed.

ScreenRant‘s Gregory Nussen gave the Netflix movie a 3 out of 10 stars, calling it “boring.” They also cited that it “is a futile salute towards hope, which unfairly assumes powerful people’s positive intentions, underscored here by largely cookie-cutter characters and a lack of complexity.

A House of Dynamite won’t end Ferguson’s Netflix stint. She will star in the upcoming Peaky Blinders movie, The Immortal Man, alongside Cillian Murphy, who will reprise his iconic role as Thomas Shelby. There is no confirmed release date, but it’s expected to drop sometime in 2026. Additionally, Ferguson will reprise her role as Lady Jessica in Dune: Part Three, although it will be a smaller role.
