“A person you respect” – Boro star speaks highly of Super Eagles’ Kelechi Iheanacho

Kelechi and Tommy

Super Eagles star Kelechi Iheanacho has earned the admiration of Middlesbrough teammate Tommy Conway, who has described him as a ‘big character’ that commands respect naturally, Footynaija.com reports.

Iheanacho joined Boro on loan from Sevilla in January looking to revive his seemingly stalling career. However, he has found it difficult to make an impact for Michael Carrick’s side, as appears to be lacking in fitness and sharpness after watching on from the sidelines for most of the first half of the campaign in Seville.

Despite recently making important contributions in Boro’s playoff push, the club’s fans have not responded well to the Nigeria international, booing him off the pitch during a narrow defeat to Leeds United.

In contrast, fellow Middlesbrough star Conway, only had words of praise of Iheanacho when speaking about the former Leicester City forward in a recent interview with Teeside Live.

What Tommy Conway said

“He’s been great Kel, from the moment he got here. What you guys and the fans don’t see, is the energy he brings in the dressing room every day. He’s always thinking positively, he’s always there to speak to and offer advice.

“When you consider his experience and his time in the Premier League and what he’s achieved in the game, it’s amazing for someone like me to have. He’s a person you respect naturally, he’s a joy to play with, and he’s a joy to share the changing room with as well.

”He’s a big character. From the day he walked in, he took to it like a duck to water, and everyone took to him as well. Credit to him for that, he’s really bought in. I hope he can have a big impact in the remaining games, as I believe he has done already.”

Middlesbrough currently sit three points outside the playoff places with only two games left to play. They cannot afford any more slip ups if they are to stand a chance of breaking into the top seven.
