A year after Op Sindoor battering, Pakistan says will continue to upgrade military capabilities

Twelve months after the significant military setbacks experienced during India’s Operation Sindoor, the Pakistan Army has announced it will persist in enhancing its military hardware and tactical readiness to counter what it describes as regional aggression.

In a formal communication released at midnight between 6 and 7 May 2026, the military command reflected on the four day conflict of 2025. While India’s strikes on terror infrastructure last year resulted in the elimination of at least 100 insurgents, Pakistan has chosen to frame the subsequent engagement as a defining chapter in its history.

Steadfast commitment to national defence

The military leadership asserted that despite the changing nature of modern conflict, their primary focus remains on maintaining a robust defensive posture. The statement noted: “While the strategic environment continues to transform, the resolve, vigilance and commitment of Pakistan Armed Forces to defend the nation remain unwavering.”

Readiness for the future battlespace

Following the heavy losses sustained during the Indian airstrikes of May 2025, the Pakistan Army is now prioritising the acquisition of advanced systems to prevent a repeat of such penetrations. The army stated: “Pakistan Armed Forces continue to invest in critical capabilities, advanced technologies and professional excellence required to meet future challenges. More focused than ever before, they stand prepared for the future battlespace and remain ready to decisively respond to any aggression imposed upon the homeland.”

The army further warned that any future incursions would be met with precision and resolve far stronger than that witnessed during the short lived conflict last year.

Technological transformation of the PAF

The Pakistan Air Force is being positioned as the vanguard of this new modernisation drive. The military highlighted the integration of niche technologies as a way to recover its operational standing.

The report stated that this journey reflects the PAF’s “steadfast journey towards becoming a future-ready air power through smart inductions of cutting-edge systems and swift operationalisation of niche and disruptive technologies, consolidating its operational reorientation.” It further claimed that through the “skillful employment of Multi-domain Operations, Pakistan Air Force continues to consolidate itself into a future-focused and capable air power, fully prepared to uphold the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan in the face of the evolving nature and parameters of modern air warfare.”

Historical context of the conflict

The current tension stems from the Pahalgam terror attack which claimed 26 lives. In retaliation, India launched Operation Sindoor on 7 May 2025, devastating nine terror camps. Although Pakistan attempted retaliatory strikes, the majority were intercepted by Indian forces. The hostilities were eventually halted on 10 May 2025 through hotline negotiations.

Describing the impact of those four days, the army claimed the “successful execution of these operations, unprecedented in scope and novel in the history of aerial warfare, not only underscored the professional excellence of the Pakistan Air Force but also renewed the pride, confidence and spirit of the resilient Pakistani nation.” The statement concluded by claiming that Pakistan’s military preparations are solely dedicated to preserving regional peace.
