The State Working Committee (SWC) of the Labour Party in Abia state has passed a vote of confidence in the Governor Alex Otti-led administration.
The State Publicity Secretary Comrade Njoku Jerry of the party in a statement on Tuesday said Governor Otti has served as a model template of what leadership in Nigeria should look like.
According to the statement, the unity and success of the party is their utmost concern.
They threw their weight behind Governor Otti as a man with the constituted authority and power to lead the party in Abia state .
Arising from an intensive discussion with governor Otti, members of the SWC reaffirms their continuous support to the governor describing him as pacesetter of the new Abia.
They disclosed that the governor has redefined leadership in a manner that has endeared Abia State and her people to the world.
The statement read in parts, “This meeting has given us all assurance of the man we have always trusted to do just what is right at all times. These past few days have been riddled with diverse stories the social media has had sport with describing and analysing the crisis bedevilling the party, some of the stories often misleading and in conflict with actual position of situations in the Party’s leadership.
“Without holding brief for the legal tussle between INEC and the leadership of our National body existing in the court presently, I just want to make clear that we the members of SWC of Labour party in Abia still holds our Governor in high esteem as the man with the constituted authority and powers to lead our great party in Abia State to greater heights and we are always ready to continue to work with him in all purposes of sincerity”
“One classic position of the governor since he assumed office is in his statement where he said and I quote “We are here to work for the people, we can make mistakes and when we do, we admit it because we are humans and human beings are not infallible.”
“We are bound by human infallibility to make mistakes in our social and political sojourn in life but the good things is that once we realised that we have derailed in responses to certain situations or positions we once held dear in error, we must restrain ourselves and do the right thing in accordance with the law of the land and the regulatory bodies that controls our activities as a political organisation.
“We cannot afford to be in conflict with the regulatory body of any institution the government has empowered to monitor and coordinate our activities in consonance with the laws of the land guiding us as responsible citizens, especially where the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) is involved in matter that concerns the leadership of a political party, the moment we do that it means we are on the journey to self made cycle of conflict.
“We want to avoid that by every means necessary as almighty God gives us wisdom, because it is of a certainty that nobody can achieve much in the midst of conflicts and distractions.
Njoku who reassured that the unity of the party in the state is paramount said, “The unity and success of this great party is of utmost concern to all of us therefore we are not relenting in seeking for every possible means of truce without giving loopholes to enemies of the good governance and quality leadership we have achieved in Abia state under Labour party.
“There are clear evidence under the leadership of our dear Governor Dr. Alex Otti, that Abia State has served a model template of what leadership in Nigeria should look like therefore I do not know why anybody in his right mind will want to disrupt that, We hold the constitution of the land in high honour and it will be out of place for us to do or follow others to do anything outside the laws guiding our political and social participation as citizens of this great country.
Defending the government on the allegations of fraud by the opposition party in the state he said, “I have been reading those posting figures including fake cheques on the social media platforms asking anyone who can point out any tangible thing or roads the Otti Government has done to come and collect a certain amount of money.
“My brother, there is no gainsaying these are criminals who do not even reside in this state, some of them do not even live in Nigeria and has been an extension of everything that was wrong with this State in the past, they participated massively in the stealing of the people’s collective resources and brought the state to so much disrepute .
“We have cut them off from that conduit of stealing and the mess they subjected the state to, I do not expect them to be comfortable with our presence but they should be extremely cautioned because the people here now are wiser and ready to disrobe them in their wickedness and greed,
Even given the opportunity, they do not have anything to offer but empty English speaking and falsehood.
“Abia State do not have an inch of a space for such people any longer so they have resorted to this mudslinging but like i have always maintained, they are necessary distraction under the guise of opposition and I am very confident they will remains in that beer joint for a very long time”
He reminded everyone how dirty Abia state was before the coming of this government, “If you come to the state and move around Government facilities today, or visit Aba or nearby communities, you will see clear answers to those silly questions they are brandishing across the Social Media platforms, You will see Abia State money under the judicious management of Labour Party Government of Alex Otti.
“When this Government came into power, entire government facilities including the Deputy Governor office and down to the state government facilities was a complete mess no sane person would want to associate with, today we have changed all that to a beautiful edifice and so much more.
“That is leadership by examples and not by billboards and cheap propaganda that distributes money to all Dick and Dundee to speak in your favour, Labour party do not have space for such rascality, this is the people’s party and we owe the people a responsibility to do what is right and acceptable before God and man and that’s what we are doing by every bit of our decision and I am confident in that belief.”
