More cracks have emerged on the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abia State, as some prominent members of the party in Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West Federal constituency have mandated the member representing them in the House of Representatives, Chris Nkwonta to join the All Progressive Congress, APC, without delay.
Nkwonta is the only House of Representatives member elected on the platform of the PDP in Abia during the 2023 general elections.
Rising from their crucial stakeholders’ meeting held at Obehie, Ukwa West LGA on Tuesday, the PDP top shots expressed disillusionment over what they called ‘intractable crises’ at the national level of the PDP where the PDP governors are battling for the control of the party.
The communique signed by Don Ubani, who is a former Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor of Abia State, John Ajuzieogu, Goodhope Nwagbara and 37 other PDP leaders, expressed dismay that Abia State PDP Congress has not yet been held.
They therefore mandated the member representing them in the House of Representatives, Chris Nkwonta, to immediately dump the PDP and join the APC, alleging that Nkwonta’s continued membership of the PDP is at the detriment of his constituents.
The PDP stakeholders who promised to join the APC as soon as Nkwonta dumps the umbrella party, said that they have been in a predicament belonging to an opposition party that is in disarray.
Bemoaning the poor infrastructural conditions of their area, the Ukwa-East and Ukwa-West PDP members thanked President Bola Tinubu for the ongoing NDDC projects in their area and the Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu for quality representation.
“We will align and holistically support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu”, the PDP stakeholders said.
