Factional National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, on Tuesday led members of the party’s National Executive Committee to pay a condolence visit to the 2023 vice-presidential candidate, Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, over the death of his elder brother, Mouftah Baba-Ahmed.
Naijaonpoint reports that the visit was confirmed in a statement issued in Abuja by the LP National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh.
The late Mouftah, aged 64, died last week in Madina, Saudi Arabia, after a brief illness. He was described as a seasoned businessman and distinguished public servant.
His burial was conducted in the holy city in accordance with Islamic rites.
Speaking during the visit, Abure commended the late Mouftah’s contributions to society and prayed for comfort for the family.
“I know that obviously, the death will leave a big hole in the family, but we are trusting God to bring succour to the family and to provide for the young family he left behind,” he said.
In his response, Datti Baba-Ahmed thanked the LP delegation for standing with the family during their time of grief.
“The family is so happy and proud of the party. We are proud that the entire Labour Party came to console us. We thank you for showing empathy with us,” he said.
The Baba-Ahmed family is one of Northern Nigeria’s most prominent, with deep involvement in politics, business, and education.
Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, who rose to national prominence as the 2023 vice-presidential candidate alongside Peter Obi, is also the founder and Pro-Chancellor of Baze University, Abuja.
Another sibling, Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, recently served as Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Political Matters.
