A major faction within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State has suspended three senior party officials over alleged misconduct and activities described as undermining the party’s integrity and structure.
Those suspended include the State Secretary, Yusuf Alkali; the Assistant State Financial Secretary (Central Zone), Abba Galadima; and the State Publicity Secretary, Murtala Ali.
Naijaonpoint reports that their suspension was announced in a statement released after an emergency meeting of the State Executive Committee, held on Tuesday in Sokoto.
The committee said the decision followed established links between the affected officials and actions considered to be anti-party, including breach of trust and conduct capable of threatening the party’s unity.
“These measures are essential to safeguard the stability and progress of the ADC in Sokoto State,” the statement read. “Conduct capable of jeopardising the unity of the party will not be condoned.”
The resolution was endorsed by 25 out of the 33 members of the State Executive Council and was signed on their behalf by the Deputy Chairperson, Bello Illela.
In a show of strength, the faction reaffirmed Bello Keegan as the authentic Chairman of the Sokoto ADC. It warned Mr Umar Mohammed to desist from “parading himself” as the state party leader.
Describing Mohammed’s activities as “fraudulent, illegal and intended to mislead the public,” the faction accused him of attempting to destabilise the party for personal interest.
“The Sokoto ADC has only one recognised chairman, and that is Bello Keegan,” the statement insisted.
Naijaonpoint reports that the factional rivalry has resulted in parallel meetings and conflicting directives, further intensifying the tension within the state chapter.
According to the committee, reaffirming Keegan’s leadership and suspending the three officials are crucial steps to restore order and maintain organisational discipline within the party.
“The vote of confidence in Mr Keegan was necessary to maintain unity, stability and discipline,” the statement added.
