The Bauchi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Sunday announced the expulsion of a factional chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, Aminu Muhammad, and the suspension of his associate, Babayo Musa Garba, accusing them of impersonating party officials and attempting to destabilise the party.
Naijaonpoint reports that the party disclosed this at a press conference in Bauchi, where it reaffirmed the leadership of its State Chairman, Haruna Hassan.
Addressing journalists, the Assistant Publicity Secretary of the party, Harsanu Guyaba, said the ADC was taken aback by a statement issued on Saturday, January 17, 2026, by what he described as “impostors and disgruntled elements,” claiming to have suspended the state chairman and replaced him with his deputy over alleged anti-party activities.
He said, “We want to categorically state that the action of these self-acclaimed impostors is nothing but a desperate attempt to destabilise the growing strength, popularity, and unity of the party in Bauchi State.
“Their conduct is condemnable and alien to the values and principles of our great party.”
According to Guyaba, Aminu Muhammad had already been expelled from the party, while Babayo Musa Garba was placed on suspension, as contained in letters dated January 2, 2026.
He stressed that the ADC does not recognise any internal structure operating under the name ALGON.
“The two individuals have no locus standi to speak for or act on behalf of the party. Aminu Muhammad is an expelled member, while Babayo Musa Garba remains under suspension.
“The ADC does not recognise anything like ALGON as mischievously claimed,” he said.
The party urged members and the general public to disregard statements and publications attributed to the duo, insisting that they did not represent the ADC in any capacity.
Guyaba also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies to take note of the development.
He assured party supporters that the ADC leadership in the state remained united and focused on building a strong political platform anchored on internal democracy, justice and credible leadership.
However, reacting when contacted by Punch, Aminu Muhammad denied being expelled from the party, insisting that he remained a card-carrying ADC member in Bauchi State for the past eight years.
He claimed he was never served with any expulsion letter and maintained that he remained the chairman of the ALGON structure within the party.
Muhammad further alleged that chairmen of the 20 local government ADC chapters in the state had, on January 17, 2026, invited the state chairman to appear before a disciplinary committee over alleged breaches of the party’s constitution and anti-party activities.
According to him, the invitation letter dated January 6, 2026, gave the chairman adequate opportunity to defend himself, but he allegedly failed to honour it.
“In line with the provisions of Article 15(C)(3) of the ADC Constitution, we resolved to suspend the State Chairman, Mallam Hassan Haruna, from office with immediate effect,” Muhammad said.
He added that the Deputy State Chairman, Mallam Mahmood Tabla, had been directed to assume office in an acting capacity pending the conduct of a valid congress, while the suspended chairman was granted the right of appeal within 14 days.
