The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has slammed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for failing to deliver on his 2023 campaign pledge of providing uninterrupted electricity within four years.
In a statement posted Sunday morning on X (formerly Twitter), the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, accused the Tinubu administration of deepening Nigeria’s power sector crisis while offering no meaningful reforms or clear direction.
According to the ADC, more than two years into Tinubu’s presidency, Nigerians are enduring worsening electricity conditions despite steep tariff increases.
The party pointed to a series of national grid collapses, stagnant electrification in rural areas, and the lack of a comprehensive roadmap for reform as evidence of the administration’s failure.
“President Tinubu promised us 24/7 power. Yet the facts today speak louder than his broken promises,” the statement read.
The ADC tweet listed several key grievances, including a 240% increase in electricity tariffs since Tinubu assumed office and twelve grid collapses that have plunged millions into darkness.
Others are over 90 million Nigerians still lacking access, most rural households are entirely disconnected from the national grid, and no significant reform, roadmap, or visible progress in the sector.
Highlighting the daily struggles of Nigerians, the ADC lamented that millions are still charging phones at public kiosks and burning through their income to fuel private generators.
The party concluded with a pointed reminder of Tinubu’s own words: “If I don’t give you electricity, don’t vote for me.”
“Well, Nigerians are listening. And come 2027, we intend to grant your wish,” Abdullahi said.
