The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, John Nwosu, has accused the ruling All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) of engaging in widespread vote buying during Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State.
Nwosu made the allegation after casting his ballot at Oduda Central School, Ward 2, in Nnewi North Local Government Area. He arrived at the polling unit around 11:28 a.m. and voted shortly after.
Speaking with journalists, Nwosu expressed satisfaction with voter turnout but criticised what he described as rampant financial inducement linked to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s party.
Although he did not provide specific figures, he insisted that the practice was widespread and threatened the integrity of the electoral process.
LP’s Moghalu Also Decries Vote Buying Across Polling Units
Similarly, Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate George Moghalu has voiced strong concerns over the monetisation of the election, saying he has received multiple reports of vote buying from across Anambra.
Speaking at his residence in Nnewi North LGA, Moghalu said the trend has become even more aggressive than in past elections.
Moghalu lamented the persistence of the practice, saying, “The situation is scandalous and very embarrassing. The issue of vote-buying is no more a speculation. It happened very aggressively in the last by-election. This time around, I’ve been receiving reports of the same thing happening.”
