Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has rejoined full training with Atalanta following the September international break, Soccernet.ng reports.

This temporarily puts an end to the uncertainty surrounding Lookman’s future at the Bergamo club following a failed attempt to exit the club in the summer.

The 27-year-old winger had been at the centre of a tense transfer saga over the summer after formally handing in a request to leave Atalanta.

Why Lookman’s move to Inter Milan failed

Lookman was heavily linked with a switch to Inter Milan, but the deal collapsed after the two clubs failed to reach an agreement.

The breakdown sparked reports of a rift between the Nigerian and Atalanta, with Lookman missing training sessions in an effort to push through the move.

Former Super Eagles striker Mohammed Gambo has now urged Lookman to focus on the season ahead despite his disappointment at the failed transfer.

“Just like every Nigerian, I followed the Lookman issue from the start, and I was unhappy that he did not get that move to Inter Milan,” Gambo told Footy-Africa. “It is unfortunate how the whole thing happened because I really thought he was going to move from there, but that is not the case now.”

“However, as a professional, I want him to concentrate on the task ahead. I just found out that he has started training with the first team, which is a positive thing. I hope the coach will give him some playing time with the team as the season progresses so Lookman can show them what he can do. Maybe if he performs well, there will be interest in him from other clubs in December.”

What’s next for Ademola Lookman?

Lookman’s relationship with Atalanta had appeared strained in recent months, particularly after reports that coach Ivan Juric left him out of matchday squads—against Lecce—for not being ready.

He was recently criticised for a missed penalty in Europe, which added to speculation about his long-term future at the club.

Following the saga pinned to his name, the Nigerian international could yet rebuild his form in Serie A and revive interest from top European clubs when the January transfer window opens.
