AFCON: Super Eagles to face Mozambique in round of 16

THE Super Eagles of Nigeria will be up against Mozambique in the round of 16 of the Morocco 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), it has been confirmed.

Mozambique lost 2-1 to Cameroon tonight to finish third in Group F and set up the last-16 clash with the Super Eagles, who topped Group C with nine points.

The 35,000-capacity Complexe Sportif de Fez in Fez, which has been home to the Super Eagles in their entire Group C campaign, will be the venue for the round of 16 encounter on Monday, with kick-off set for 8pm.

The Super Eagles have been spotless in Morocco, winning all three group games while scoring eight goals and conceding four.

Ademola Lookman and Raphael Onyedika have scored twice each, with Semi Ajayi, Victor Osimhen, Wilfred Ndidi and Paul Onuachu netting the other goals.

Mozambique lost their opening game to defending champions Cote d’Ivoire, but bounced back to beat Gabon 3-2, the victory earning the Mambas the three points that ensured they advanced as one of best third-placed teams.

Nigeria and Mozambique have met on five previous occasions, with the Super Eagles
victorious four times, including their only AFCON encounter in Lubango, Angola in January 2010, which the three-time African champions won 3-0.

In other round of 16 clashes, Mali will face Tunisia, Cote d’Ivoire will battle neighbours Burkina Faso, and Algeria and Cameroon will confront the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Africa respectively.

Hosts Morocco will play Tanzania, while Senegal and Sudan will clash.
