The African Action Congress (AAC) has criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its handling of the recent Edo election, claiming that the process failed to meet democratic standards.
In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Femi Adeyeye, the AAC expressed its dissatisfaction with what it described as widespread voter apathy and irregularities.
The party pointed out that official reports showed a voter turnout of only 22.45%, but raised concerns about inflated figures appearing on INEC’s iRev portal.
Specifically, the AAC cited an example of a polling unit where 213 people were recorded as ‘accredited,’ but 352 votes were allegedly cast for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“In a particular polling unit result uploaded on INEC’s portal, 213 persons were ‘accredited’ but 352 ‘voted’ APC. What a magic!” the statement read.
The AAC also condemned the unequal treatment of political actors during the collation process.
The party referenced a viral video showing the Edo State Governor being escorted out of the collation centre by police, while APC supporter Tony Kabaka, a known militant, remained at the venue unchallenged.
Furthermore, the AAC criticized political parties that exploit institutional failures for political gain, stating that such actions undermine public trust in Nigeria’s democracy and contribute to corruption and weak governance.
In response to the alleged flaws in the electoral process, the AAC called for protests and immediate actions to restore fairness and transparency in Nigeria’s elections.
The party urged citizens to reject the results and fight for electoral integrity.
