Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa on Wednesday had an interface with members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) and other All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State.
Meeting the GAC and party leaders at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Alagbaka, Akure, the leaders unanimously affirmed the governor as the party’s leader in the state, pledging their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in his re-election bid.
At the meeting, they resolved to promote reconciliation, strengthen internal cohesion and preserve the unity and progressive ideals of the party after the primaries.
Speaking at the meeting, the Chairman of GAC, Chief Pius Akinyelure, assured that the party leaders are committed to resolving differences among party members and safeguard the stability and future of the party.
He emphasized that the greatest strength of the party is its unity of purpose.
Akinyelure explained that disagreements arising from political contests are normal happenings in a democracy and such are resolved through dialogue, mutual respect, selflessness and sacrifice.
He, therefore, charged party leaders and government officials to work collectively ahead of the 2027 general election in order for the party to perform better than it did in the 2023 presidential election in the state.
The GAC chairman recalled that Ondo State recorded the second-highest percentage of votes cast for President Tinubu nationwide.
Commending the Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa-led administration, Akinyelure assured the governor of the council’s continued support.
He urges members of the party to shun division, bitterness and unnecessary rancour.
Fielding questions from journalists after the meeting, Akinyelure said the leaders unanimously endorsed Aiyedatiwa as the APC leader in the state.
He disclosed the issues affecting the party were reviewed in the meeting, expressing satisfaction that necessary adjustments had been made to strengthen the party’s unity.
Senator Ajayi Boroffice stated that the council and elders resolved at the meeting to give the governor unflinching support and ensure all party members recognise him as the APC leader in the state.
Boroffice, who described Governor Aiyedatiwa as the institution representing the APC in Ondo State, revealed that the leaders resolved to intensify efforts towards President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
He disclosed that the leaders would engage the APC national leadership to reaffirm their solidarity and communicate the resolutions.
In his comments, the APC National Vice Chairman(South-West), Hon. Isaacs Kekemeke, disclosed that over 30 party leaders who were at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to President Tinubu’s re-election.
He said it was also resolved that all support groups should operate under Governor Aiyedatiwa’s leadership.
Kekemeke, therefore, urged the national leadership of the party to involve all major stakeholders in decisions concerning Ondo State.
