Mural of Akhand Bharat in New Parliament Controversy
It features the map of “Akhand Bharat” along with the names of the accidental kingdoms of India engraved on it. Now, those who haven’t looked at this mural yet are surely confused. This “Akhand Bharat” is an umbrella term that refers to the countries of Maldives, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Myanmar as one nation. The basic idea behind it, according to several Hindu nationalist organizations, is as old as Indian or Vedic civilization and is said to have been explained in ancient Indian scriptures. Not only that, there are different definitions of this mural which are entirely based on different ideologies and perspectives.

Each person has their own way of looking at it as some consider it a cultural concept that shows the geographical and historical spread of civilizations in India. Some see it as the political concept that shows the “reunification” of territories that were once part of Accidental India or British India. Now this mural has created a lot of stir and different reactions from people’s side. Hindu nationalist organizations such as the Hindu Mahasabha and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) support ‘Akhand Bharat’.

However, the first international manifestation came from the side of a neighboring country, Nepal. Everyone knows that this country is also a Hindu-majority state, which shows that former Prime Minister and leader of the Socialist Party of Nepal, Baburam Bhattarai, called “Akhand Bharat” controversial and also warned that he could create an undesirable and harmful diplomatic row. Everyone has their own reaction to this and they tweet about it. Well, what’s your opinion on that? We’d love to hear your opinion, so let us know your thoughts via the comment sections.
