The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, expressed his commendation on Wednesday towards President Bola Tinubu for enacting the legislation that facilitates the creation of three significant tertiary institutions within the South-east geopolitical zone.
Naijaonpoint reports that the newly established institutions include the Federal University, Okigwe, located in Imo State, as well as the Federal College of Education and the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, both situated in Bende, Abia State.
In a statement released through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio acknowledged the unwavering support and dedication of stakeholders in both the House of Representatives and the Senate towards the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration.
The Senate President further recognized the efforts of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who was instrumental in sponsoring two of the Bills, along with Deputy Whip, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, and Deputy Minority Whip, Senator Osita Ngwu, for their effective representation and commitment to the welfare of their constituents.
Additionally, he commended Senator Patrick Ndubueze, the primary sponsor of one of the bills, for his outstanding leadership.
The three institutions are designed to deliver quality education, foster research opportunities, and address the educational requirements of the South East region, while also enhancing healthcare delivery to promote knowledge and improve health outcomes in the area.
Akpabio firmly believes that the establishment of these institutions will represent a pivotal achievement in advancing education and development within the South-East region.
“I applaud President Tinubu for his inclusive leadership and demonstrated commitment to the development of the South-East region and efforts to heal the deep-seated wounds of the past. The establishment of these institutions will go a long way to remove the nagging feelings of distrust and socio-economic marginalisation among the people of the South-East.
“I commend the President for his open-heartedness and unrestrained affection for the region. The significant support of leaders and lawmakers in ensuring the passage of these very important bills establishing these institutions is noteworthy and commendable.
“I call on the great Ndigbo people to continue to key into the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration and position for strategic and progressive alliance with President Bola Tinubu,” he said.
The Senate President reaffirmed that the continued support of the South-East for the Tinubu administration will attract more dividends of democracy to the region.
