The Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State, Barr. Otoabasi Udo has cried out over alleged neglect and marginalisation by the administration of President Bola Tinubu despite their contribution to the party.
The party said the situation has adversely affected their performance in party affairs.
Udo said though over 700 appointments have been given out by the party hierarchy, he has not been fortunate to be a beneficiary of the windfall despite his contributions to the party before and after the 2023 general elections.
“Over 700 appointments have been given out so far and the State Publicity Secretary is from Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, Abak precisely where we gave Akpabio and the APC 19, 627 votes ?
“If I should not be given an appointment based on the above votes I contributed significantly, what about the uncountable number of articles and press releases I have done on behalf of the Party ?
“Who were those who got all the appointments ? Cabal ? Yes, cabal.
Udo who poured out his frustration on a social media post when APC members demanded to know why the party publicity secretary has been silent over pressing party issues, said he has sacrificed enough for the party having sold his “property and be everywhere for the party I have already sacrificed my all,”
The Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio is the leader of the party in the state and and in the south south region, many of the over 700 appointments are believed to come through his recommendations.
Prior to the 2023 elections, APC was torn apart by a factional crisis with many of the party members pledging loyalty to either Akpabio or other leaders. The crisis began during the party primaries where two chairmen allegedly emerged.
Since then, efforts to reconcile the factions have not yet yielded any positive result even though the party has raised a reconciliation committee.
Efforts to have a response from the Senate President’s aides have not been successful.
