AKWA IBOM: EFCC arrests six over alleged internet fraud

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended six individuals suspected of engaging in internet fraud in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State.

The arrests, confirmed via the Commission’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday, were carried out by operatives from the Uyo Zonal Directorate during an intelligence-driven operation.

According to the EFCC, four of the suspects were arrested in the Ekamba Nsukara area, while the remaining two were picked up in Ekpri Nsukara, both located in the Nwaniba axis of the state capital.

The agency said: “Operatives of the EFCC, Uyo Zonal Directorate, arrested six suspected internet fraudsters in the Ekamba and Ekpri Nsukara areas of Nwaniba, Akwa Ibom State.”

Items recovered from the suspects include eight mobile phones and two laptops, believed to be tools used in the alleged cybercrimes.

The EFCC further disclosed that the suspects will be formally charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
