THE airline owned by Akwa Ibom State, Ibom Air, has dismissed allegations of ticket racketeering at its Port Harcourt station describing it as unfounded and without merit.
The airline emphasized that it operates in accordance with strict ethical guidelines, with clear prohibitions against any form of racketeering or corruption among its staff. Any attempts to compromise these standards are thoroughly investigated and addressed accordingly.
This information was conveyed today in a statement by the General Manager of Marketing and Communication, Aniekan Essienette, in Uyo, the state capital.
Essienette clarified that check-ins for domestic flights close 45 minutes prior to departure, and the airline faithfully follows IATA guidelines for managing ‘Go-show’ passengers.
The statement read: “Ibom Air is aware of recent allegations regarding our check-in and ticketing practices, particularly concerning unfounded claims of ticket racketeering at our Port Harcourt station.
“We categorically reject these claims. Our staff operate with the utmost integrity and are dedicated to serving customers fairly and transparently. This commitment is fundamental to our operations, and we will ensure our ticketing process remains transparent.
“It is our policy, aligned with international standards, that check-ins close 45 minutes before departure for domestic flights. This policy ensures timely departures and reduces delays. We strongly recommend that passengers arrive on time to enhance their travel experience.
Essienette added that the company adheres to IATA’s guidelines in handling ‘Go-show’ passengers.
It added, “We adhere to IATA’s guidelines in handling ‘Go-show’ passengers. These passengers arrive early without a pre-booked ticket and are duly informed if the flight is full. It is strictly their informed decision to be waitlisted as “Go show” passengers, and they are accommodated only if seats are available after all booked, early, and on-time passengers have been served.
“Ibom Air operates under strict ethical standards, and our staff are banned from any form of racketeering or corruption. We ensure transparency and security in our ticketing process, leaving no space for misconduct. Any efforts to violate these standards will be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate action will be taken.
“We appreciate your trust in Ibom Air and remain steadfast in our commitment to providing the highest service standards. We will continue to prioritize passenger interests while maintaining operational excellence within our industry.”
