The Akwa Ibom government has earmarked N1.02 billion to purchase or maintain 26 vehicles for members of the state House of Assembly in the 2025 fiscal year.

Details of the allocation were contained in the state’s approved 2025 budget document.

The amount covers the 26 lawmakers in the House of Assembly, while the constituency development project allocation for the legislature stands at zero naira for the year.

A budget review shows that between January and September 2024, the government spent N1.6 billion on 30 SUVs through the office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).

Another N3 billion was also budgeted through the same office for the purchase of 70 saloon cars, with N3.6 billion already spent as of September 2024.

In the new fiscal year, the office of the SSG has again budgeted N6 billion for the purchase of luxury vehicles.
