The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, has named Alhaji Bilaal Oseni Akinola as the new Chief Imam of Oyo land.

Naijaonpoint reports the appointment was officially announced through a statement from the monarch’s media office.

The letter of appointment, personally signed by the Alaafin, was handed over to Akinola, confirming his selection after completing the required screening process.

The Alaafin described the appointment as an important moment for the people of Oyo and said that leadership in Islam calls for humility, honesty, and fairness.

The new Chief Imam is now tasked with leading the Islamic community in Oyo land, guiding religious affairs, and promoting unity among Muslims in the region.

The Alaafin expressed joy at Allah’s guidance in placing a respected Islamic leader in this role.

“Having passed through the duly screening test, I have the pleasure to inform you that you have been selected by me as the new Chief Imam of Oyo.

“The moment is not only significant for our people, but also sacred in the eyes of Allah, for leadership in Islam is a truth that demands humility, sincerity, and justice”, the appointment letter reads in part.
