Alia Congratulates GSS Gboko, Nestle Milo Sec Sch B’Ball Gold Medalists

MAKURDI – Governor Hyacinth Alia, of Benue State has congratulated, Government Secondary School (GSS), Gboko, Benue State, female team, for their outstanding performance at the 26th edition of the Nestle Milo Secondary School Basketball championship.

The Governor who welcomed the team on their arrival to Makurdi, commended their superlative performance at the competition that earned it a gold medal, and also extolled the basketball team for their dedication to making the state proud.

In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, that was made available to INDEPENDENT in Makurdi on Sunday, Alia, promised the team an undisclosed “special package”, as a reward for coming tops at the competition.

The female team from GSS, Gboko, that represented the state at the finals of the competition in Lagos, maintained an unbeaten streak, throughout the five games it played, eventually emerging winners of the championship, carting home the gold.

According to Kula, “Governor Hyacinth Alia has expressed immense joy following the victory of the GSS, Gboko female basketball team at the 26th edition of the Nestle Milo Secondary Schools Basketball Championship.

‘Governor Alia, who closely monitored the team’s progress during the competition, dispatched state officials to receive the champions in Abuja, ensuring their welfare and safe passage back to Benue state.

“Expressing his pride in the young athletes and their coaching staff, the Governor lauded their dedication to making the state proud and announced that the government has prepared a special package to reward their excellence.

Kula quoted Alia as saying, “My administration shall continue to support sporting activities to expose and nurture the abundant talents among our youth.” End
