The Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) has continued attacks on Christian communities in Nigeria’s North-East, with reports that the terror group recently razed a Christian village in Adamawa State.
A security expert, Brant Philip, disclosed the development on Thursday after a video circulated online, allegedly released by the terrorists.
According to Philip, ISWAP published footage showing a Christian settlement in Adamawa engulfed in flames, alongside a statement threatening Christians across the country.
“ISWAP released an image of one of the Christian villages in Adamawa State burning, alongside a statement saying that all Christians in Nigeria are legitimate targets, and that they have an opportunity to ‘spare their blood’ by converting to Islam or paying the jizyah tax to ISWAP,” Philip wrote on X.
The latest attack is widely seen as retaliation for recent joint airstrikes carried out by Nigerian and United States forces against terrorist hideouts in the North-West.
Recall that five days ago, Donald Trump announced that the United States military had launched airstrikes targeting terrorist elements in Sokoto State, in coordination with Nigerian authorities.
ISWAP, a breakaway faction of Boko Haram, has in recent years intensified attacks on both Christian and Muslim communities, security formations, and civilian targets across the North-East, despite sustained military offensives.
