The National Commandant of the Nigeria Peace Corps, Dickson Akoh, has been arraigned before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged fraud amounting to N60 million.
Akoh appeared in court alongside the Corps’ Director of Finance, Omolala Aminat Ahmed, before Justice H. B. Yusuf of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja.
According to Politics Nigeria, Akoh has long been a proponent of youth engagement through meaningful initiatives, including the security of schools nationwide.
He has also consistently advocated for legal backing for the Peace Corps, urging the National Assembly to pass legislation supporting its establishment.
The EFCC, in a statement on Friday morning, confirmed that the duo were arraigned on a two-count charge relating to the alleged criminal misappropriation of funds allocated to the Corps. Both Akoh and Ahmed pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The first charge read, “That you, Dickson Akoh and Omolala Aminat Ahmed, in 2024 at Abuja, FCT, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, agreed among yourselves to commit an illegal act, to wit, criminal misappropriation, thereby committing an offence punishable under Section 96 of the Penal Code Laws of the FCT.”
The second charge stated, “That you, Dickson Akoh and Omolala Aminat Ahmed, in 2024 at Abuja, FCT, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, agreed among yourselves and dishonestly converted to your personal use the sum of N46,000,000 (Forty-Six Million Naira) out of N60,000,000 (Sixty Million Naira) meant for the execution of a contract for the supply of badges.”
EFCC spokesman Dele Oyewale added that prosecution counsel, Khalid Sanusi, requested a trial date following the defendants’ pleas.
Justice Yusuf adjourned the matter to February 25, 2026, and granted the defendants bail of ₦5 million each, with one surety in the same sum. The sureties must be reputable and residents of Abuja.
