Harry Potter‘s Tom Felton stars in the just-released trailer for the upcoming sci-fi film Altered, which sees the former Malfoy actor turning into an Iron Man-esque hero. After the eight-film Harry Potter series wrapped in 2011, Felton starred in multiple films, including Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Apparition, Ophelia, and A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting.
Well Go USA released the trailer for Altered, in which genetic enhancements dominate society. The Harry Potter star plays a character named Leon, a wheelchair user who leans on his talents and skills as an inventor to create devices meant to help unmodified people (known as the specials) get by undetected.
He becomes a parental figure to 13-year-old Chloe (Elizaveta Bugulova) after the death of her parents.
The trailer for Altered features Leon showing off his Iron Man-like suit. After he’s warned against entering the genetic district, Leon does so anyway because he’s been offered triple his normal fee for fixing someone’s suit. While he believes he’ll be able to get in and out quickly and without consequence, reality paints a different picture.
After his community is framed, Leon teams up with other specials to fight back, with the trailer teasing epic action sequences as the two sides battle it out for supremacy in an unrecognizable world.
Along with Felton and Bugulova, Altered also stars Richard Brake, Igor Jijikine, Aggy K. Adams, Sergey Tsyrulnikov, and Aleksey Filimonov. The sci-fi movie was directed by Timo Vuorensola, who also wrote the screenplay. Andreas Klein, Marko Moellers, Doris Pfardrescher, and Juris Razgulajevs produced the film.
Vuorensola wrote Altered as an alternate history if the Cuban Missile Crisis had launched a nuclear war, leading to advanced genetic advancements the likes of which the real world has never seen.
It’s been six years since Marvel’s Iron Man last graced the big screen in Avengers: Endgame, and 17 years since Robert Downey Jr. made his debut as the iconic superhero. Leon’s suit in Altered appears to take inspiration from Iron Man’s suit, with certain scenes in the trailer giving off the same vibes as Tony Stark building his suit in the Iron Man films.
Altered will be available to watch in November, the same month that Felton makes his Broadway debut, reprising the character of Draco Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child for a 26-week run, so audiences have plenty of opportunities to see him in multiple projects in the next several weeks.
Altered will be released in theaters and on VOD on November 21.
