Amazon's Kindle Gen 12 has enhanced display features

Amazon Kindle Gen 12 2

The Amazon Kindle Gen 12 has just leaked and it comes with some enhanced display features that will likely excite the most eager of readers. Whether you’re new to the world of Kindle or a seasoned bookworm, Amazon‘s latest iteration of the popular e-reader seems to have something for everyone.

The Amazon Kindle Gen 12 (it’s unclear if this is what Amazon will actually call it) comes in at least two colors according to the leaked images (courtesy of @MysteryLupin on X). This includes the standard black that basically every Kindle ever has been offered in. There’s also a green color that provides a little more pop.  The colors are, of course, the least interesting thing about Amazon’s new e-reader.

The improvements to the display are what will most likely draw in users. Potentially even those that already have a Kindle they love.

The Amazon Kindle Gen 12 has a brighter front light

As wonderful as the Kindle can be for reading, it won’t do you much good if you can’t read the display properly. With the new 12th Gen Kindle, Amazon has boosted the display brightness by 25%. The Kindle Gen 12 now comes “with 25% brighter front light at max setting and higher contrast ratio,” the leaked promotional image reads.

This should mean you’ll be able to see the display easier in brighter settings. Such as when you’re outside where there’s more sunlight that could cause glare. The new Kindle also has faster page turns, so you can more briskly “flip” through the pages of whatever new book you’re reading.

This might not matter too much to those of you who read at a slower pace. However, if you happen to read rather quickly, the faster page turns will be a nice change allowing you to consume more reading material.

There’s a 6-inch display and up to 6 weeks of battery life

When it comes to display size, Amazon offers Kindles in various size options. This new Kindle will have a 6-inch display so it’ll be compact and quaint. The perfect little device to satisfy your love for reading. It also has up to 6 weeks of battery life so you won’t have to worry about plugging it in too often. Additionally, Amazon’s promotional imagery says the display is “glare-free,” further adding to the readability outside in direct sunlight.

The new Kindle will also be able to store thousands of books on its 16GB of internal storage. Worth noting is that the display size and storage amount aren’t new. The 2022 model of the Kindle had both of these. So it seems Amazon is sticking to what has worked in the past. There’s no listed cost in this particular leak, but a post from The Verge does reference the same Kindle that briefly showed up at a UK retailer before the listing was pulled. The cost in that listing shows the Kindle Gen 12 at £94.99, so chances are we’ll see this at $99.99 here in the US.
