The Senate on Thursday pressed ahead with the screening of President Bola Tinubu’s 65 ambassadorial nominees, with former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani‑Kayode, drawing significant attention during his appearance before the Committee on Foreign Affairs.
Fani‑Kayode, a prominent member of the Tinubu‑Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, told Punch shortly after his session that he has “no clue” which country he may be posted to but said he is prepared for any assignment.
Emerging from Senate Room 301 at about 2:15 p.m., the ex‑aviation minister, who served alongside Festus Keyamo, Dele Alake and Idris Mohammed as campaign spokesmen ahead of the 2023 elections, appeared upbeat in a green babanriga and gold chain.
“Oh, the screening went well. We are not under any form of pressure. The exercise was conducted in a relaxed atmosphere,” he said.
Asked whether he had a preference for where he would like to serve, Fani‑Kayode simply smiled and said, “I really don’t know. It is up to Mr. President to decide that.”
Like all other nominees before him, Fani‑Kayode confirmed that he has not been informed of his designated mission, as the final postings remain under presidential consideration.
He is among the non‑career ambassadorial nominees forwarded to the Senate by President Tinubu for vetting and confirmation.
Other notable names on the list include former presidential aide and ex‑Senator Ita Enang from Akwa Ibom; retired Vice Admiral Ibok‑Ete Ibas, former Chief of Naval Staff from Cross River; and retired Lt. Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazzau, former Chief of Army Staff from Kano.
As of Thursday, the specific diplomatic postings for these nominees are yet to be disclosed, pending final approval and announcement by the Presidency.
