Amnesty International has condemned the killing of four people and the abduction of 12 others, including children, during an attack on Gidan Waya in Yarkasuwa, Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The international rights organisation, in a statement on Wednesday, said the attack occurred on the night of 11 November 2025, describing it as another reminder of the Nigerian government’s failure to protect lives and ensure accountability for human rights violations.
“Amnesty International strongly condemns gunmen’s attack on Gidan Waya in Yarkasuwa, Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, in which four people were killed and 12 abducted — including children aged 13, 14, and 15.
“The attack, which took place in the night of 11 November 2025, is yet another indication of the stunning failure of the Nigerian authorities to protect lives and ensure accountability for all human rights crimes,” the group said.
The organisation said that since 2016, rural communities across northern Nigeria have lived under constant threat from armed groups, forcing farmers and families to abandon their homes and livelihoods.
It added that Amnesty International had been documenting the “alarming escalation” of attacks and kidnappings in several states across the northwest and north-central regions, noting that the worst-affected areas include Plateau, Zamfara, southern Kaduna, Benue, and Katsina.
The rights group urged the Nigerian government to urgently step up protection for vulnerable communities and ensure that perpetrators of such attacks are brought to justice.
